Weapon of Prayer

Enmities is listed as a work of the flesh in Gal 5:19-21. Enmity is indignation, hostility or wrath. It seems some of the most vocal in the church have sought to fight abortion and homosexuality using enmity. This is not in the Spirit of what Paul said in Rom 12:21 “overcome evil with good.”  When Jesus said in Mark 3:23 that “satan cannot cast out satan,” He was stating a principle, we cannot fight in the flesh, in a spirit of hatred or rage.  It seems to stand that the enmity the church has used against these forces has not cast them out, rather it has emboldened those engaged in support of these evils and cause many “on the fence” on the issue to be ‘turned off’ by the church as they recognize the work of the flesh of rage, and so the church and its position is rejected.
What work of the spirit then would cast out and overcome these seriously damaging forces?  A post trib application of Derek Prince’s “Shaping History through prayer and fasting” leads me to see a movement within the American church soon emerging that will bear fruit.  A faithless interpretation of Scripture will leave us without great works, we must believe and rise up in our calling. His church is primarily called to pray for all peoples (Mark 11:17 paraphrase) The church has been given authority over these things, but we must use it in a right spirit.
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish.” (2 cor 10:4 NIV).  Intercession will accomplish much more than fighting in the natural.  We must vote for righteous legislation, but our part as a church is not finished there, and in the voting arena we have been losing.  We must use the authority of prayer we have been given.  He did not say my church is called to vote for all peoples, (though we are), He pointed instead to the courts of heaven, which the Ancient of Days, God (Dan 7:9) rules, and which supercede all earthly government.  1 Tim 2:1-2 suggests that our house has authority above the houses of reps or other government and beyond, and that authority can be used to the point of answered prayer that will see wickedness like abortion made illegal.  For what peaceable life in godliness abides with over 40 millions abortions and counting.  The conviction of intercession as our function above other functions will lead us to heavenly shiftings which birth results in the natural.

Clearly we are to pray in the Lord’s prayer model, in matt 6: for the Father’s will to be done on the earth, so that the Kingdom will be established.  When the Kingdom is established in an area men are connected to the King and the Holy Spirit “will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” John 16:8).So how should we pray?  We know from Rom 1:25 that the spirit fueling homosexuality, is worshipping the creation instead of the creator.  The same creation-worship is happening in pornography and the sex-driven movies and television, causing an a sex-driven society that aborts its children.  When a right view of the Creator is given this enables a fight to correct wrong worship.  We know that 2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers and that “no man can come to Jesus, except the Father draw him” (John 6:44).Eph 6:12

says For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Now if the church was supposed to struggle against flesh and blood, then what we have been doing would make sense, but rather we are to war against powers and rulers who seek to keep man locked in evil and darkness.  “The god of this age who has blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 Cor 4:4).  Those that are blinded the church must enlighten.

Therefore I submit that Paul gives us the answer in Eph 1:17.  The way that the Spirit led Paul to pray for Ephesus is the Spirit’s answer to pray for our nation.Eph 1:17 (I pray continually) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened.

If the church begins to earnestly and regularly pray for the eyes of the men and women of America to be enlightened, that Christ would be revealed to them by the Spirit, God will answer them.  The Spirit will reveal Christ to them and wisdom will convict them of sin.  The church will also need wisdom to disciple the harvest the Lord will release to it.Many will read this and not have faith that God will move on America, but consider:
He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us! (Eph 3:20).

If you abide in Me and My words abide in you you will ask what you desire and it will be done for you.  (John 15:7).

P.S.  We have used Matt 9:36-38 to say go reap the harvest, but it seems to be speaking of first laboring, and then being sent.  Furthermore the command of the verse is to PRAY for the reaping of the harvest, and Luke’s recording ties the sending to an apostolic commissioning.  After all the word Apostle means ‘sent one.’  An apostle has the anoiting of the Spirit to “convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” John 16:8).   Also Rev 14 and Mat 13:39 say the harvest is ‘at the end of the age,’ i imagine preceding Jesus’ return.
