Chewing the Word

He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” 11 of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Spiritual Immaturity

12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

What does this verse mean to you?  I think that digesting solid food has to do with chewing the Scriptures in prayer, both 5:11-14 and chapter 4:7-12 are connecting the idea of laboring in the Word to hearing His voice.

I’d say you can’t have verse 14 without verse 11, the Lord is saying through the writer of Hebrews that they aren’t hearing God as well because they aren’t chewing the Word and being sustained as by meat, but just hearing it like a baby drinks milk.  This is like people who live off of sermons but don’t get in the Word, study it contextually, and then take it to God in prayer, and dialogue.

The Lord who made the ear is using the analogy of a baby that has too much milk and too much mucus built up and ears are clogged.

John 5:37-40, John 15:7, and Col 3:16 are essential prophetic Scriptures where Jesus is saying it is essential to have His words abiding in us, and they say how to do it, we want the written word to take us to the living word

We can pray-read scripture, in the classic contemplative prayer model, we first thank Him for the verse and then ask for either power to obey or ask for revelation on it.  If the written word doesn’t become prayer then we are just reading the menu and not eating the meal

We want to eat the scroll, eat the meal of the Word, I do a verse a day, and write down revelation as we want to be good stewards of what God gives us.

Jesus is the Living Word, the Scriptures are Jesus and we will never get to a place to where we don’t need to eat, some can live anemic they need to take the word to the word. No one is skilled by coming to the bible alone but by coming to Jesus (John 5:38-40).

John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, who you have sent.” (What a stunning statement! The sum of Christianity, the entirety of even life itself is one thing—knowing God. Not a knowing restricted to the realm of intellectual knowledge. While information is not a bad thing by any means, this is not what Jesus is talking about. This is life indeed: encountering the person Jesus Christ; for the truth of who He is to move the human heart and draw it into an eternal intimate fellowship.) Meditating, seeking, declaring, making the verse relational in prayer. “Jesus let this written word take me to You!!”

(Heb. 10:16) “I will put My laws (Word) into their hearts (emotions) and in their minds (understanding) I will write them…”

MIND: God promises to release the spirit of revelation to our mind as we progressively gain living understanding of His Word.

HEART: God promises to empower our emotions until we feel the power of His Word with new holy desires. God promises to write His Word on our heart and mind (2 Cor 3:3) as He wrote the ten commandments on tablets of stone (Ex. 31:18)

This doesn’t happen just be reading the verse but by chewing on it. “Our joy is to abide in the Vine and to meditate on His Word day and night. His joy is to respond by bringing forth fruit and to make us as trees by streams.” (John 15; Psalm 1) (Jn 7:38 Living Water).

In John 14:23 He says He wants us to tend His words so that He can manifest His presence in greater ways in us.  I believe this relates to the promise of John 15:7 and that He will manifest His presence related to the degree we have His Word abiding in us. But it takes hunger, time and pursuit, rewriting the code of our heart by meditation and talking to God on the Scriptures, that He would write the Word on our heart.

Turn of a few things and let boredom take you to hunger, He says blessed are the hungry!  Jesus is building His church on this rock, the Spirit of Revelation of Christ, that He is revealed to us by the Word and Spirit, if we like Proverbs 2 says cry out for the knowledge of God!  Take one verse to work and meditate on it all day, asking for revelation and then come home and meet with Jesus. The call of the hour is to get OIL, and buy GOLD, Make the Holy Spirit your best friend get revelation!! (Rev 3:18, Mat 25)
