Word for 2013

The coming days will bring greater dimensions of darkness in the world; yet our hope is for the appearing of God’s weighty Presence.

My daughter-in-law is preparing to give birth to my grandson, Isaac. It was prophesied before his conception that his birth would be a prophetic sign for our ministry and mark timing for the Body at large. I do believe something is about to arrive and the dawning of a new day is imminent. The child of covenant and promise is about to be birthed.

Even so, I find myself in this spiritual dilemma; I’ve seen the great needs of our generation, yet I’m being compelled by the Spirit to pull aside and “wait on God.” Presently, I have been required to remain at home for a season. I am daily spending hours in prayer, meditating on God’s Word and waiting upon the Spirit. There is something of vital importance that we must obtain in this season that is essential to move forward. Perhaps you are in a similar place.

The Open Door

As emphasized in Revelation 3:20, the Lord stands at the door and knocks and to him who hears and opens the door to his heart, the Lord will dine with him. This is an individual commission and requires an individual response. On the other side of the “open door” we will find Living Word revelation vital for this season and the Heavenly blueprint.

The fullness of the ministry model God has ordained to respond to the great needs and challenges of the 21st Century is not presently on the earth. It is something that we must obtain from behind the veil in the unseen realm. It is the hidden manna reserved and set apart for this generation that will equip the Bride of Christ without spot or wrinkle and empower her for the harvest.

Hebrews 8:4-5 tells us how Moses discovered the Heavenly pattern for his generation:

Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “SEE,” He says, “THAT YOU MAKE all things ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN WHICH WAS SHOWN YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN.”

It seems that oftentimes Moses was required at the most inopportune time to pull aside and ascend the mountain of God to receive insight, instruction and empowerment. It was on the mountain that Moses obtained the heavenly pattern for the Tabernacle and God’s ordained order of worship. So it is today.

Lessons Learned

Great value is placed upon learning from our past mistakes. In the prior generation many distinguished leaders found themselves captured by doing things for God and unknowingly lost their sensitivity to the voice of His Spirit. It is imperative that we guard against doing so much for God, when our invitation is to do things with Him. Even so, that is in no way an endorsement on complacency.

Our highest purpose is to have relationship with Him. Intimacy with the Lord is the essence of our design in Creation and the highest purpose in the restoration of all things. To walk with God in the “cool of the day,” is still our foremost aspiration. It is in that place of “union” that we are empowered to influence our culture and manifest His Kingdom.

The earth is entering into a season of travail. World systems will be powerless in responding to the needs that are about to be present in the earth. Even those obtaining revelation through spirits of divination are prognosticating essentially the same thing. Only when anointed with the Holy Spirit can the Church impart wisdom and revelation that will provide genuine light in this dark generation!

The day is fast approaching when the prophetic ministry of the Church, through the spirit and power of Elijah resting upon a company of people, will once again encounter the “prophets of Baal” in a Mount Carmel showdown. We must contend for that higher standard.

When the genuine is present, it makes the counterfeit appear all the more perverted. The Church should not fear to take the prophetic gospel to the marketplace where our enemy is presently attempting – often successfully – to dominate. This generation is desperate for authentic spiritual representation from the Kingdom of Light.

In another Old Testament example, the 400 prophets of Ahab each received spiritual revelation containing measures of truth, yet the origin was a deceiving spirit the Lord allowed because of Ahab’s unrighteous leadership. A true prophet of God, Micaiah, was then summoned and was able to soar above the deceiving spirit and receive a true revelation from God’s heart (1 Kings 22:1-28).

Spiritual discernment and a good foundation in truth clearly identify false revelation, thereby motivating the Believer to press in all the more earnestly to receive the genuine. The Spirit of Truth will render the false spirits of revelation powerless, as with Paul, Elijah, and other loyal servants of the Lord. Instead of their prophecies bringing numbness to us, those with the true revelatory mantle will precipitate immobility and disarray in the camp of the enemy. Light dispels darkness.

David’s Example

Although David’s destiny was one of greatness and divine favor, he was required to endure times of separation and hardship before being released into the fullness of his calling. It was during these difficult times that character was being forged to prepare him for being a king. Decisions he made in the wilderness helped formulate the pattern of David’s life when he ascended to the throne.

A similar situation has occurred for many in the Church. It appears our enemies are prevailing, despite great promises given to us by the Holy Spirit. However, it is during times of disappointment and hardship that divine character is formed in us; we are purged and purified from our own carnal plans and agendas and equipped to faithfully accommodate the anointing. Righteous decisions that are made during these dry intervals will reap immeasurable dividends throughout the coming seasons of great prosperity that we are transitioning into.

While experiencing the baptism of trials, it is challenging to wait upon the Lord for His perfect timing in releasing all His promises to us. Like David, we cry out to the Lord, “How long must we endure these difficult and trying times?” Patiently, the Lord admonishes us to “be still” and wait for the completion of His sanctifying work of grace within us, allowing the full release of His anointing through us.

However, our tendency during these times is to “do something.” So we often misinterpret ministry activity as “doing the will of the Father” and confuse endless motion with progress. In Matthew 7, Jesus describes many who were involved in ministry but their eternal destiny was outer darkness.

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in Heaven. Matthew 7:21

In doing the Father’s will, we access the Kingdom of Heaven and find favor and grace during times of need. In the Scripture, one of the Hebrew terms translated as “salvation” is yeshuash, which denotes deliverance, welfare, prosperity, and victory. Its unique application bespeaks deliverance from present troubles and the assurance that the Lord is aware of our condition and will intervene on our behalf. He assures us, saying:

‘I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Our Savior’s plans for us are for welfare and prosperity, not calamity. However, wilderness experiences are allowed to establish godly character in us and to allow us to sow seeds of righteousness that will reap bountiful harvests in the seasons ahead. We must pray with the same assurance as David, despite the external circumstances and trustingly realize that the Lord is faithful to His promises. Not one of His promises has ever failed in all of history.

Beholding God’s Beauty

After years of walking with the Lord, David gave expression to his heart’s longing. He had ultimately concluded there was only one thing he truly desired and one thing that would fully satisfy the purpose of his life: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life and to behold the beauty of the Lord and meditate in His Temple (Psalm 27:4).

David’s passion was to gaze upon and perceive the Lord’s beauty and delight in His loveliness. His expression signifies an experiential comprehension of the beauty realm of Heaven. Can we behold the King in all His beauty?

In Isaiah 33:14-15, the Holy Spirit through the prophet Isaiah asks a revealing question: “Who can live with continual burning?” Or, in other words: Who can live in an atmosphere where there are perpetual expressions of God’s justice? The prophet provides the answers:

1. The one who walks righteously.
2. The one who speaks with sincerity.
3. The one who rejects unjust gain.
4. The one who shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe.
5. The one who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed.
6. The one who shuts his eyes from looking upon evil.

Such a person lives in a state of consecration and purity, which allows them to dwell in the heavenly heights; their refuge will be the impregnable Rock. Such a person’s heavenly bread will be provided and their spiritual water source will be sure. Such a person’s eyes will see the King in all of His beauty and will behold the far-distant land (Isaiah 33:14-17).

Although the Lord first appeared as the suffering Lamb, He is now being revealed as the victorious King. Presently, Heaven is unveiling the Lord’s great glory and kingly authority. It is our outstanding privilege to be offered the opportunity to possess anointed eyes to see, behold, and perceive the revelation of the King and His Kingdom design.

To Behold by Revelation

According to biblical scholars, the Hebrew word chazah means “to see, behold, or select for oneself.” It appears fifty four times, and in every period of biblical Hebrew. Chazah literally signifies the ability to see “in a prophetic vision or as a seer in an ecstatic state.” In Numbers 24:4 the word means to see by way of a prophet’s vision, to see with intelligence and by an experience.

The oracle of him who hears the words of God, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered,

Through biblical promises, opportunities are given to apprehend experientially the glory attributes of God in perceptible and tangible ways as we “wait” upon Him. The sum of David’s passions were captured in that one thing.

May it also be our chief desire to see, behold, comprehend, and explore the mysteries and infinite riches of the Lord’s goodness and beauty and discover His plans and purposes for this unique hour in which we live so that we can build according to God’s ordained model.

Word for 2013

Bob Jones: Prophetic Word for 2013

Bob Jones is certainly an elderly statesman in the prophetic seer realm in the Body of Christ. I’ve gleaned the following from a message he gave recently. Bob is a seer, not a teacher. Sometimes he just makes a statement and then is on his next point, and you’re not sure if he’s left his former point or not. Sometimes he spends a lot of time on one point and you’re not exactly positive when he’s on another point. So the following is how I heard it. -Gary

Word from Bob Jones

The year 2009 was the year of the OX. We plowed repeatedly. It seemed that all we did was plow and there was no or little reaping. We became exhausted with all the plowing. We even became discouraged and sometimes wondered if we had missed God. But God was plowing out things in us and the Body at large so He could use them. There had to been a cultivated soil so that seed that was planted would grow.

That year is over. The year 2010 is the year of the EAGLE. This year vision is carried and it begins to grow. This is the time to get the Word of the Lord out of our mouths as much as possible so it can bear fruit. The eagle has a protection on it that allows it to fly into the sun. Our country (the eagle is our symbol) has a protection on her if we fly into the Son. This year healing will arrive. You will begin to see some incredible miracles, and you will begin to be recipients and do incredible miracles.

The year 2011 is the year of the LION. That speaks of authority. Christians will walk in the authority of God like they have not been walking. We have the same authority that Jesus had on earth. We can do the same acts that He did. In John 14:12 the Lord says we will do even greater acts that He did.

The year 2012 is the year of MAN. The new man in God will begin to be seen. This speaks of unity in the Body, the Jews and Gentiles coming together, the world seeing a different type of Christian. This new Christian walks in love and power!

Though there will be revival pockets before 2013, it will become full scale in 2013. We’re talking world wide revival. ( Remember Tim McClellan’s prophecy over Jason Hubbard and Jon Hammil?)

Judgments are coming to the Body. Some of them are not for us, but we must trust in God or they will overcome us. The devastation of many others judgments can be reduced by us

1. Severe anxiety–We’re not entitled to have this judgment; it belongs to the world. We are supposed to have the Answer to show to others who are very anxious.

2. Fear–This comes from having a big devil and a small God. People will die from anxiety and fear (e.g. heart attacks, suicide, etc.) Our faith needs to be anchored on Jesus, not what the news commentators tell us. In fact, many newscasters are witches putting curses on their viewers and listeners.

3. Depression and self pity–You cannot have your way, but God will have His way. Get over yourself and grow up. Stop living with a poverty spirit.

4. Financial collapse

5. Nicolaitan spirit–This spirit is condemned by the Lord in Rev. 2:6 (church at Ephesus) and in Rev. 2:15 (church at Pergamum). This spirit has victory over or rules over the people. It’s the pastor (and sometimes other leaders in the church) being on a different, higher level than the people. The Lord says in Revelation that He hates this spirit, to repent of it, and that He will come against it with the sword of His mouth. The reign of the pastor over the entire church is coming to an end. There will be a community of believers with their various giftings operating. Everyone will be important.

Bob added that it was not necessarily so that the woman would come along side the man and together they would be successful. Wherever he has gone to speak in the United States, it has been the women who have shown hunger for God–about 85% to 15%. It could very well be that the men will come along side the women and be successful.

6. Plagues coming to crops. Bob saw fleas hit the fruit in Florida and wipe out the crop. There will be new viruses and new infections. The medical community will have no answers. These plagues will promote fear everywhere, but we do not have to buy into it. Don’t pray to God for help. He’s already given us the authority over plagues, but we must rise up and use our authority. Bob gave an example of a virus that hit North and South Carolina a few years back. It killed many people and there was no medicine to stop it. The church pleaded with God to help them.

Then the Lord told Bob in an angry voice that He wasn’t going to pull the virus back; He had already given the church authority to do that. So Bob and Rick Joyner came against the virus in the name of Jesus and cast out the curse over the two states. After that, not one person died of the virus.

Watch Iceland. The Lord told Bob years ago that Iceland would be the barometer of what was happening and about to happen both in the U.S. and in the world. The volcano action there is a sign that God is shutting down the world economy. Three years ago Iceland went bankrupt. That’s in our future, too. However, how long these things last is determined by us, the Christians.

Let God’s shaking only shake out that which is not of Him in you. That way the Christ in you can cause you to grow up.

Mark 11:17 And as He taught them, He said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’?

The Coming Snare pt 1

2012 is the start of a prophetic call to wrestle in prayer, intercession and pursuit of God, and like Jacob, even adverse circumstances like a disjointed hip and the like, will not slow us down.  I believe it is also the beginning of a call to study some of the 150 chapters of the bible about the Lord’s return and Judgment on the Antichrist empire.  We may still be 10-20 years out, but there is a strong invitation like He gave John, Come up here and see thing things which are to come..  Some of you are now thinking ‘Jesus said no one knows the day.’   But He rebuked those who didn’t know the generation, and then said to watch and pray, that the Day of the Lord didn’t come on us like a thief in the night.  We can know the generation and He said ‘No one knows the day’ to startle people awake into watching in praying, and yet most people use that verse to lull people to sleep.

It says in Luke 21:34, exhortation one: “Take heed to yourself, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.” Then, in Luke 21:36, Jesus tells them to pray always. So the two exhortations that Jesus gives is: take heed to yourself and pray always. He says, “Why? Because if we do not pay attention to ourselves, our heart will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the cares of this life.”  Carousing and drunkenness speaking not just of alcohol, but of being oblivious of in the intensity of the hour, focused on pleasure-seeking and merrymaking. Not that all will be in drunkenness, but of those weighed down, the worst expression of their plight is the drunkenness.  Many will be weighed down without drinking. The cares of this life isn’t just the worries, but the contrast of caring about this life, versus caring about the life in God and the coming life of the next age we should be living for.

The net result is this: the Day of the Lord, the second coming, and the events related to it will come upon these people, even believers, unexpectedly because their hearts are weighed down, and they do not have an alert spirit. They do not know what is happening, even when the generation they are living in is the generation of the Lord’s return. Their hearts are weighted down because they did not pay attention to the way they were living, or respond to the urgency of the hour accordingly. We are talking about believers as well.

He is talking to His people here—people who would read the Bible and believers.  21:35: “It will come”—the Day of the Lord, the end-time events—“as a snare upon all those who dwell on the face the whole earth.”  The Day of the Lord events: will be a snare, or a challenge. It will challenge believers and unbelievers.  It will challenge everybody differently. It will be a challenge even for the red-hot believer.  Now He is giving the second exhortation in Luke 21:36: “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.

In Luk 18:7 He basically says it this way, to cry out day and night, to stand faithful at the return of the Son of Man.  We want to pray things like Ephesians 3:16 that we would be strengthened to with might to stand in love, filled with the Spirit.  We want to ask for revelation of His full end-time plans, as those Scriptures are for us more than any other previous generation.

Luke 21:36 again: “Watch therefore, and pray always.” One exhortation with two different sides to it—two sides to one coin, but one general exhortation. Here is what you are praying: The New King James Version uses the phrase in Luke 21:36: “You would be counted worthy.” Many translations translate this Greek word instead: “You would be strengthened.” The idea of being “worthy” is being able, capable, or strengthened. That is what the Greek word means. Strengthened, able, capable, worthy. That is the feel of what Jesus is saying. Think of this phrase in how many Bible translations say it. Pray that you would be counted worthy, or that you would be supernaturally strengthened. Really this is the call to pray for Ephesians 3:16—that you would have might on the inside.

The reason you watch and pray is that you would be counted worthy to escape all the things that will come to pass and then to stand in victory when the Lord appears. You would be in a place of victory when the Lord comes. You would not be in a place of compromise. You would not be in a place of stumbling, but you would be standing instead of stumbling when the Lord appears.

A snare is a trap. It is the same word—snare or trap. Some Bible translations say snare. Some say trap. A trap or a snare was a very common thing in the ancient world. That is how many people obtained their food. They would go hunting. In the old days, they did not bring a shotgun when they went hunting, as they did not have shot guns. They did not have sophisticated weapons for hunting. The most practical and common way of hunting in order to get food was a trap or a snare. They would put a trap in a hidden way, and then the animal would step into the trap. It is obvious, and then they would be captured.

There is a trap: there is a snare that must be discerned. We must see it and overcome it.

Jesus requires even His people to face the trap. They will see it and overcome it. Some believers would like to just skip the whole challenge. Some believers think, “Let the unbelievers face that trap, and let us skip it.” That is not going to happen. We will face it. We will see it. We will triumph over it, but it will happen on an individual basis. Some believers—probably many believers—I do not think most, but it will be hundreds of millions of believers will be caught in the snare. They will compromise, and I believe there will be that many who will deny the Lord. The great falling away will happen in the hour of the snare.

I believe there will be hundreds of millions who will fall away. There are about a billion believers on the earth. I believe that there is going to be another billion in the great revival, offended by it. Though the Church will increase dramatically, my guess is that potentially, tens of millions, or maybe a couple hundred million will actually deny the faith in the face of this snare. They will not see the snare, and they will not triumph over it. They will be caught by it, and they will denounce the Lord in the intensity of the hour.

The snare is inevitable. It is coming. We cannot pray the snare away. The snare is coming.

However, your response to it is still in the balance. What you will do in the face of the snare as an individual is up to you. That is what He is talking about; that is what He is saying, “This snare is coming. You cannot pray the snare away, but you can pray that you escape the compromise related to the snare.” He tells them in Luke 21:36: “Pray always.” Luke 21:36 is the equivalent of what Paul is really saying in Ephesians 3:16, when Paul prays that a spirit of might would touch your inner man. Beloved, this is a prayer that you do not want to neglect or minimize. You really, really want this prayer to be a priority in your daily life. We are weak and broken people—just folk, normal people, every day people who can receive this inspiration and influence of the Holy Spirit in their inner man. It is just small measures of it, but it really will make the difference. Because it is not enough in the face of the snare to just grit our teeth and say, “I am going to obey. I am going to obey. I am going to obey.”

We are going to need supernatural grace touching our inner man. We are going to need supernatural help. The Holy Spirit says, “I will give it to you.” Jesus says, “If you ask for it, you will get it, but you have to ask for it.”  We can grow in supernatural grace even now.  We are in birthpangs now, He has given us time to get understanding and revelation and get our hearts on fire, that we would be led by Him in an intense time.  When He Eph 3:16 strengthens us with might, our capacity to experience His love is increased.  This is such a good daily prayer and something we can cultivate and go hard after, that we would stand confident in love in a coming shaking.

End Time Timeline/Timechart

Please read this before you view the Timechart:

150 chapters of the bible relate to the end-times, and He wants us to know Him and His plans.  We want to know the Jesus who is to come, not just He who was and is.

2nd Thes 2:1-4 states clearly that the Rapture/2nd Coming comes After the “Falling Away from the Faith” and After the Antichrist is revealed.

He wouldn’t have us just learn the timing of His plans and stop there, we must take these chapters and verses to God and let our understanding be formed by Word and Spirit, not by culture or tradition or sentiment.

We want to be lovers of truth, and protected by God from disaster, by learning to be led by the Spirit, and having understanding of the hour we are in.  For Jesus to return and rule the earth, He must first cleanse the earth of wickedness and judge sin once and for all, there will be martyrs, but there will be supernatural protection and provision greater than the book of Acts and Exodus (Mic 7:15).  We will do greater work than these (John 14:12) when there is a great need for them.  He will have a pure and spotless bride and these Judgments will remove all that hinders love and wholeheartedness.  Daniel fasted and received revelation of end-times and revelation that he was greatly beloved.  God has built the plumbline of His Kingdom on Asking, Seeking, and Knocking if we ask for understanding and revelation on these verses, we will receive.

Is it the end-times?  An examination of the signs of His Return, that Jesus Gave:

NOTE: This is “The Day of the Lord. This event is mentioned over 300 times in the NT scriptures – more attention given to this event than any other single event in NT. Signs of the Times

Three Timing Indicators of the Return of Christ

32 Learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near–at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words (prophecies) will by no means pass away. (Matthew 24:32–35)

But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only (Matthew 24:36).

  • Jesus said present tense “knows.”  Does Jesus know now that He is in heaven with the Father?
  • We don’t want to get into specific ‘date-setting’ though we can ask the Father.  We know exactly 7 years of tribulation so when it starts… We know the Harlot religion and Antichrist will come first (2 Thes 2:1-4, 1 Thes 5:3) but we must know the generation in which we live.  Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark.  Our ‘ark’ is inside us, by fellowshipping with the indwelling Holy Spirit and being led and protected Goshen in Exodus.
  • There are many prophesied signs in Scripture that mark the final generation, that Jesus returns to, as unique.  These signs give us the understanding that we are in a unique season in redemptive history. Yet many make wrong assumptions regarding Matthew 24:36 and 44:
  • Wrong assumption #1: No one can know the day or the hour”, which would falsely imply a sudden, unexpected departure.  No one can know the day or the hour, but Jesus Himself made clear that we could (and should) know the season, or the generation, of His return.
  • Wrong assumption #2: No one will ever know the day or the hour.”  It is true that “of that day” no one knows, only the Father Himself.  That does not mean, however, that we will never know the time of His coming.
Jesus exhorted us to know the Generation
Luke 12:54 And he said also to the people, When all of you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately all of you say, There comes a shower; and so it is. 56 All of you hypocrites, all of you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that all of you do not discern this time?
  • The Bible gives precise information to believers (number of days, months, and years pertaining to certain events in the last days) that will give us great hope in the midst of great trial.  We may still not know the exact day or hour, but we will have great hope alive within us that there is a predetermined end to the trial that will soon come.
  • The subject of the signs of the times is greatly neglected by many within the Body of Christ. Yet many Scriptures emphasize how important prophetic signs are at the end of the age. Scripture shows that Jesus, more than any of the apostles, instructed on our need to discern the times. Jesus gave severe rebukes to those who did not pay attention to the prophetic signs that pointed to His first coming.  The following verses are examples of the mandate to Jesus to pay attention to signs of His return: Matthew 16:1-4 and 24:32-44, Luke 19:41-44, and Luke 21:34-36.
  • There are three types of biblical “indicators” that indicate to the generation in which the Lord returns that His coming is near:

1).  Sign events: these are predicted in Scripture and alert us to the timing of Jesus’ return.
2). Sign trends: both positive and negative sign trends will signal His coming
3).   Prophetic experiences: subjective personal experiences alert us to the end times.

Jesus connected three events to his Return

  1. There are three key sign trends that strongly indicate that we are in the generation of the Lord’s return.  Jesus personally connected the timing of His return to the earth to three events that are all emerging simultaneously in this hour of history:
  2. Jesus connected the timing of His return to the repentance and revival of Jewish political and spiritual leaders in Jerusalem in Matthew 23:37-39.
  3. Jesus connected the timing of His return to the preaching of the gospel throughout the whole earth in Matthew 24:14.
  4. Jesus connected the timing of His return to night and day prayer happening on the earth in Luke 18:7-8. He deliberately tied the idea of finding faith on the earth to a people crying out day and night for justice.  Ultimate justice will only be found in His return.  Rev 8:1-5 details bowls of prayers which the saints fill and then are poured out and answered at His return.

All three trends are, in a clear, measurable way, happening in this generation in a manner that is unique to any other time in redemptive history.

  1. Messianic (Jewish) congregations of believers in Israel and Jerusalem are experiencing more growth through conversions than any time in church history since the 1st century.  There has been a notable statistical increase in particular over the past ten years. This trend is one that has also been reflected in the modern missions world: a notable spike in the increase of church planting and world evangelism over the past decade alone.
  2. Evangelical missions organizations are now conservatively projecting that the gospel will have been heard by every people group and language on the earth for the first time in church history in the time frame of 2025 to 2032.
  3. The recent increase of night and day prayer across the earth more unique than in any generation throughout church history – this is a historic hour for prayer initiatives (24/7 and otherwise), prayer gatherings, stadium gatherings, and the planting of houses of prayer worldwide.   Isa 56:7 My house shall be called an house of prayer for all nations.

Inspired by Dave Sliker notes

Matthew 24 is the Premier Guide Jesus gave to knowing of the Time of His return, let’s look if we are close.

A. 24:4-8

Jesus gave 12 trends as signs of the generation in which He will return (Mt. 24:4-8; Lk. 21:7-18). Matthew gave us 7 trends which are false christs, war, ethnic conflict, economic warfare, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes. Luke described 5 more which are commotions, fearful sights, great signs from heaven, distress in the nations and roaring waves (Lk. 21:9-11, 23-26).

5 Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars…for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation…and there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes…8 All these are the beginning of sorrows (birth pangs). (Mt. 24:5-8)
Jesus gave twelve major trends that are to be discerned and received as prophetic signs to help the Church prepare for the coming years (Mt. 24:4-8; Mk. 13:5-8, Lk. 21:7-18). Jesus gave us accelerator signs in different areas of life including spiritual (positive and negative), social, political, technological, natural (signs in heaven and earth).
Mt. 24:7 For nation will rise against nation [ethnos], and kingdom against kingdom. Ethnic conflict or civil disorder based on racism is making world headlines (Mt. 24:7). The Greek word for nation is ethnos from which we get the word ethnic. Thus, nation against nation is “ethnic group against ethnic group.”
The ethnic wars in Cambodia, Albania, Rwanda, Bosnia, Kosovo and Sudan along with China’s Cultural Revolution (1966) have caused the number of people who have been murdered by their own people to exceed 150 million. The militant Islamic leaders have especially targeted Israel, the USA, and the European Union. Since 1945, over 150 major wars have occurred, killing over 25 million. Since the Berlin Wall fell (Nov. 1989), conflicts have forced 50 million people from their homes worldwide. There were over 70 wars in 1995, which is double the number in 1989.
A. Economic warfare can devastate a nation (Mt. 24:7). Kingdom against kingdom refers to making war in the arena of national resources.

A. Jesus spoke in Matt. 24:8 of the “beginning of sorrows” – a time frame that would represent a marked shift in the time in history that would represent the “beginning of birth pangs”, or the chain of events that would culminate with the end-time judgments and the Second Coming.
These disruptive prophetic signs would precede the final seven years and the beginning of the Great Tribulation in Matt. 24:15 – thus the generation of believers who witnessed these signs were exhorted by Jesus to “see that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” Though I believe that we have seen a significant shift in the season and time of history, I do not believe we have seen the beginning of this prophetic season yet.
B. “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.” The context has been established in Israel for many to emerge as false political “messiahs” to bring forth the deliverance of Israel from her enemies and establish the Torah again nationally. These
false leaders may also be instrumental in instigating the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, which Daniel spoke of in Dan. 9:27 (and Paul spoke of in 2 Thess. 2:3).
C. “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars…For nation (ethnic group) will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” in the 20th century alone 100 million people were killed in war; 1993 saw a record number of wars fought in one year – 29; the first century to see global
conflict of any kind. Ethnic conflicts and genocides, already increasing in number and frequency, will become widespread and bring a “global gloom” that will be accompanied by the other signs that Jesus predicted. The peoples of the earth will long for peace and provision.

D. “And there will be famines”: 4 million people a year currently die of starvation; the World Health Organization estimated that over 1/3 of the earth’s population is under-fed; and in ten years (1990-2000) over 100 million children died of illness and starvation.

E. “…pestilences”: virtually unheard of hundreds of years ago are over 100 different kinds of cancer that now kill over 5 million people per year; the AIDS virus alone has killed tens of millions; new and untreatable strands of malaria, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, cholera, and the
Black Death have emerged over the last 10 years; disease is the number one enemy of tsunami victims throughout Asia.

“…and earthquakes”: one of the critical signs of the times to watch for, according to Jesus, was the reality of “earthquakes in various places” as a precursor to the coming cataclysmic
earthquakes described in the book of Revelation that would be greater in scope and destructive
force than any other earthquakes in history. The initial tremors related to the birth pangs will
come in “various places” – I do not think that this means that there will be more earthquakes in
the final hours of history, but that earthquakes will continually increase in severity as we get
nearer to the end. These earthquakes, like the increase in famine and pestilence, will shift the
global mood drastically and create a greater desperation in a greater number of people for social
and societal change.

Mt. 24:9 They will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.
A. Hatred toward believers is on the rise (Mt. 24:9). Jesus prophesied that believers would be hated, delivered up to tribulation, and killed by all nations because of their loyalty to Him.
B. The number of martyrs over 1900 years was nearly 25 million. In the 20th century, there have been almost 50 million martyrs. Persecution of believers continues to increase in parts of China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Russia, North Korea, and Sudan, etc. It will reach an all-time high in
the generation Jesus returns (Dan. 7:21, 25; 8:24; 11:33-35; 12:7, 10; Rev. 6:9-11; 7:9, 14; 9:21; 11:7; 13:7, 15; 16:5-7; 17:6; 18:24; 19:2; Mt. 10:21-22, 28; 24:9; Lk. 12:4-7; 21:16-19).
Unrighteous legislation will permit the state to control and even kill believers (Rev. 13:15-17).
~Martyrdom sets into motion a domino effect in the spirit realm, which intensifies prayer. Murder backfires on the Antichrist. The shedding of the saints’ blood fuels the prayer movement, purifies the Church, and releases the harvest. It will result in fearless dedication to Jesus and zeal in the prayer movement, which releases judgment (Rev 6:10).
Mt. 24:10 Then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

A. Relational breakdown in society is making world headlines. This does not refer specifically to
believers, but to people in general being offended and betraying and hating one another.
B. Currently, the breakdown of the family with the divorce rate is exploding worldwide. In the US, it is 50%. Social order will break down when family members and friends betray each other.
There will be a widespread spirit of murder and open hatred directed at the church in the coming days (Matt. 24:9). This would be followed by “the love of many growing cold” (Matt. 24:12) in which great betrayal and offense will be revealed from within the church – among the brethren. Many will turn from the Lord in that time.
Mt. 24:12 Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
A. Lawlessness is abounding in increased expressions of violence and immorality. It will cause the breakdown of the social order as love grows cold for God, as well as for family members.
B. Sin is now reaching greater expressions and will reach its fullness (Rev. 14:18; Dan. 8:23).

23 In the latter time…when the transgressors have reached their fullness… (Dan. 8:23)
11 There will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven…25 And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars… (Lk. 21:25)
There will be great signs in the sky as seen in the sun, moon, and stars (Lk. 21:11, 25). The weather patterns are affected by what happens in the heavens. We are experiencing record levels of floods, fires, hurricanes, volcanoes, and other natural disasters.
B. Meteorologists warn that changes in global weather patterns mean that we will have hotter and more turbulent weather for the next 100 years or so. Four out of five of the costliest natural disasters of the past 40 years have occurred since 1989, including hurricanes Andrew and Hugo.
The most costly earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, and floods are happening.

When comparing Mt. 24 with 1 Thes. 5:2-3 we see 3 distinct prophetic time frames related to the final 7-year period of this age. First, the beginning of birth pangs (Mt. 24:8). Second, the worldwide period of counterfeit peace and safety (increased birth pangs; 1 Thes. 5:2-3; Dan.
9:27). Third, the Great Tribulation (heavy birth pangs; Mt. 24:21; Jer. 30:5-7). These 3 prophetic time frames are related to the last 7 years of this age (Dan. 9:27).
The last 7 years is made up of 2 distinct periods each lasting 31/2 years.

  • First time frame: beginning of birth pangs with distress in the nations (Mt. 24:4-8; Lk 21:23, 25)
  • Second time frame: increased labor pangs with counterfeit world peace (first 31/2 year period)
  • Third time frame: hard labor pangs with the Great Tribulation (final 31/2 year period)

1. The beginning of birth pangs occurs before the 7-year period starts. Israel is the timetable for God’s prophetic plans. They are the reference point for understanding redemptive history past and future. Therefore, my opinion is that the beginning of birth pangs started in 1948 when Israel
became a nation or in 1967 when Jerusalem came under Israel’s authority.

2. Jesus spoke of a specific period of time called the “beginning of birth pangs.” The Greek word birth pangs is translated as sorrows (NKJV). It is to be compared with the increasing trauma a woman experiences during childbirth. This trauma will result in a new world order being birthed at the Millennium. Paul spoke of creation as groaning for the Millennial earth.

Matthew 24’s Nine Signs

The 12 negative sign trends that bring distress to the nations are deception and false prophets (Mt. 24:4-5, 11, 24), ethnic conflict (Mt. 24:7), economic warfare (Mt. 24:7), famines, pestilences, and earthquakes (Mt. 24:8), hatred of believers (Mt. 24:9), relational breakdown in society (Mt. 24:10), lawlessness causing love to grow cold (Mt. 24:12), fearful sights (Lk. 21:11), signs in the sky and disturbances in the sea (Lk. 21:11, 25). In the same way that we must embrace the positive sign trends in our lives in this hour, so we must resist and expose these negative sign trends at this time, before they escalate.

2. These trends have always existed in society, but in the end times they will have a distinct intensity that will make global headline news. In them, God has a message to a generation. Jesus gave these signs to answer the question of what would be the sign of His coming (Mt. 24:3).
These are prophetic signs that are meant to give believers confidence that the Lord is near.

3.These birth pangs will create a many-faceted crisis, unparalleled in history. They must be discernable to be prophetic signs to help the Church. Birth pains are measured by frequency (how far apart the contractions are) and intensity (amount of pain they cause). As the frequency and intensity of the contractions increase, it signals the soon arrival of a baby. A woman experiencing birth pains notices that something is different. These signs will get the attention of the planet. Jesus didn’t give us a way to measure them. They have a discernable message in them from God that makes people cry out to God. As we stay in the Scripture and close to Jesus, we will understand.

B. 24:9-10 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
Persecution against believers: will be unique in the generation in which the Lord returns (Dan. 7:21, 25; 8:24; 11:33-35; 12:7, 10; Rev. 6:9-11; 7:9, 14; 9:21; 11:7; 13:7, 15; 16:5-7; 17:6; 18:24; 19:2; Mt. 10:21-22, 28; 24:9; Lk. 12:4-7; 21:16-19). The number of martyrs over 1900 years was nearly 25 million. In the 20th century, there have been almost 50 million martyrs.

C. 24:11-12 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
There will be a falling away from the faith at the end of the age (Mt. 24:9-13; 2 Thes. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1-2; 2 Tim. 3:1-7; 4:3-5; 2 Pet. 2:1-3). A doctrine of a demon is a teaching inspired by demons. 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, (1 Tim. 4:1-3) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables… (2 Tim. 4:3-4) Sound doctrine teaches obedience and allegiance to Jesus. It requires endurance. To turn the ear away means that the people will no longer hear what God intended in various Bible passages.  Many churches now today deny Scripture as infallible and therefore, as the moral plumb line.

We will see Scoffers and mockers even within the church as we proclaim End-time truth: Peter highlighted we first of all we should brace ourselves to be mocked. (2 Pet. 3:3-4) Loving the truth is more than agreeing with it; it involves standing for the truth despite the cost.
9 The coming of the lawless one [Antichrist] is…with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and unrighteous deception…because they did not receive the love of the truth.(2 Thes. 2:9-10)
Jesus prophesied 3x about an increased deception in the end times 4 Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many…11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many…24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (Mt. 24:4-5, 11, 24)

A.Two signs that Paul gave to indicate the time of Jesus’ Coming are a falling away from the faith combined with the revealing of the Antichrist on the world stage to establish peace (1 Thes. 5:3).Widespread deception will lead many to embrace the harlot Babylon religion (Rev. 17:2-6) and cause many to fall away from Jesus (Mt. 24-11; 2 Thes. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1-2; 2 Tim. 3:1-7; 4:3-5).
The second prophetic time frame occurs in the first 31/2 year period. It begins with the Antichrist being revealed as a man of peace who solves the “distress in the nations” (Mt. 24:4-8) (Dan. 9:27) and then establishes a counterfeit world peace (1 Thes. 5:3). At this time the Harlot Babylon religion persecutes the Church (Rev. 17:2-6) leading to many falling away from the faith (1 Tim. 4:1). The nations will rejoice in the unity and world peace that this religion will seemingly bring. Since many military and economic conflicts are linked to religious differences, many are looking for a “religious solution” that will set the stage to accomplish world peace and prosperity. 3 When they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them. (1 Thes. 5:3)

B.There are two stages in Satan’s end-time plan to be worshipped by all nations (Rev. 13:8). First, he will establish the Harlot Babylon worldwide religion as a means to deceive the nations and cause Christians to fall away from the faith. Next, he will establish the Antichrist religion.
C.Babylon will deceive the nations with sorcery, which is a combination of drugs and demonic power (Rev. 9:21; 18:23; Isa. 47:9, 12). Her dark supernatural power will fascinate people.
23 For by your [Babylon] sorcery all the nations were deceived. (Rev. 18:23)
D.Israel’s national and spiritual harlotry consisted of worshiping idols (Ex. 34:12-17). When Israel turned to idols, God called it “playing the harlot with other gods.” There are 90 passages in the OT that refer to Israel’s national harlotry. In each passage, harlotry is a religion based on idolatry. Spiritual harlotry is synonymous with idolatry and false religion that involved demon worship (1 Cor. 10:20-21; 1 Chr. 5:25; Ezek. 23:37; Hos. 4:12-13). Idolatry is usually combined with immorality (orgies), drugs, demonic rituals, and the sacrifice of animals or humans.

E.The Harlot Babylon will be a counterfeit “justice” movement and religion that will masquerade as an answer to injustice as it deceives the earth by feeding the poor, meeting humanitarian needs, loving peace, and championing the dignity of humanity with no moral absolutes. The two main characteristics of the Harlot’s ideology are moral relativism and religious pluralism.
E. The Harlot religion serves as a “forerunner” to prepare the nations to worship the Antichrist. Revelation 17:1-6 vividly describes the seductive power, cruel persecution, and destruction of Harlot Babylon’s one-world religious system.
F. The Harlot’s system will cause the nations to be drunk with her seductions that offer great benefits including humanitarian aid, unified religion (that ends war) and a prosperous world economy. The nations will get drunk or intoxicated with joy with her promises of goodness, prosperity, compassion and a theology of tolerance (Rev. 17:2)
G. The Harlot religion will have great prominence. It will be arrayed in purple (royal status) and will be respected by the elite financial leaders of the earth who will give their allegiance to her (Rev. 17:4)

A. John prophesied about Babylon from Rev. 17:1-19:10. He ended the section by defining the true spirit of worship and prophecy as that which testifies, or magnifies, the truth about Jesus. The testimony of Jesus includes His life, death, resurrection, and the primary issues on His heart.
10 Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Rev. 19:10)
B. One aspect of false prophecy is to promise peace and prosperity in a time of judgment.

(Jer. 23:16-22)10 They have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace… (Ezek. 13:10)
C. There is a great need for forerunner messengers to speak the truth faithfully, boldly, and tenderly. Allegiance to Jesus and loving the truth are primary issues in the end times (2 Thes. 2:10). The Body of Christ must tolerate all religions in the sense of greatly valuing the dignity of their people and religious liberties. They possess great dignity before God. Yet, we are not willing to let them go to hell by refusing to love them by telling them the truth about Jesus. A false application of tolerance is foundational in the movements that lead to the harlot religion.
B. The conflict in the end times will center upon defining who Jesus is and how we love Him. We must love God on His terms. Love for God is loyalty to His truth, as seen in Jesus. Our love must be expressed in alliance with the Jesus of the Bible, not the Jesus of humanistic sentiment.
C. Truths about Jesus that offend humanists include His deity and, thus, His right to establish absolute standards of living. Jesus does not accept humanistic views of righteousness and love that exclude Jesus as the only way of salvation, and His right to judge sin, now and in eternity.
D. Refusal to stand by such truths is proof that they operate under the spirit of delusion. This is true of famous people who work in the White House, who host talk shows, who fill stadiums with concerts for the poor, or who lead mega-churches. There are many voices with a false application of tolerance, and they are currently preparing the nations to embrace this harlot religion.
E. The end-time Church will lead the greatest hope and justice movement in history. In Jesus, we have a hope that is far superior to all humanistic movements. The true forerunners are the greatest hope-bringers in history. They will be filled with love, purity, and humility as they
engage in works of justice and compassion while giving a clear witness of the truth.

How does such a man as the Antichrist come into such great power and authority? It will be the fruit of the desires of the nations for this kind of king, who represents everything that they long to be. As Israel chose Saul over David, so the nations will choose this man over the true King, Jesus.  This will not be a momentary decision – the coming of the “lawless one” will be the fruit of the maturity of lawlessness (Dan. 8:23) when the “transgressors reach their fullness”. God will give men the god they desire when Satan is cast down to the earth (Rev. 12:7-9) and will “give them over” to the king they desire as well (Rom. 1:26).
D. 24:14 14 This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations (ethnos) and then the end will come. (Mt 24:14)
A. There are positive spiritual trends prophesied in the Scripture that will occur in the generation the Lord returns in great measure with a unique intensity on a global basis. They’re measurable.
B. Gospel preached to all nations: Jesus connected the timing of His return to the preaching of the gospel to all nations. Mission organizations project from statistical data that the gospel will be heard by every people group and language on the earth for the first time by 2015.
C. Churches exist in all 232 nations and territories of the earth. The greatest harvest of souls in history is occurring now. The Bible has been translated in over 2,000 languages (used by 98% of the world’s population). Wycliffe plans to have it translated in every language by 2040.
D. Salvation of Israel: Messianic (Jewish) congregations in Israel are seeing more Jewish people come to Jesus than any time since the first century. There are over 120 Messianic congregations in Israel totaling over 10,000 believers. This is an increase of over 500% in the last 10 years.
39 You shall see Me no more till you say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”
(Mt 23:39)  26 All Israel will be saved, as it is written… (Rom. 11:26)
E. Bridal identity: John connected Jesus’ return to the Church worldwide understanding her bridal
identity. This is occurring in a global way for the first time in history (Rev 22:17; Mt. 25:1-13).

F. Global prayer movement: Jesus connected the timing of His return in Lk. 17 to night and day
prayer in Lk. 18. Isaiah prophesied of 24/7 prayer ministries continuing until Jesus’ Coming (Isa.
62:6-7) and energized by those who have a bridal identity (Isa. 62:4-5). The recent surge of 24/7
prayer with many stadium prayer events occurring worldwide is a sign of the times. The Spirit is
raising up a end-time prayer movement (Rev. 22:17; 5:8; 8:4; Lk. 18:7-8; Mt. 25:1-13; Isa. 62:6-
7; 24:14-16; 25:9; 26:8-9; 27:2-5, 13; 30:18-19; 42:10-13; 43:26; 51:11; 52:8; Joel 2:12-17, 32;
Jer. 31:7; Mic. 5:3-4; Zeph. 2:1-3; Ps. 102:17-20; 122:6; Zech. 12:10).

7 Shall God not avenge (bring justice) His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though
He bears long with them? 8…He will avenge them speedily (Tribulation). When the Son of
Man comes, will He really find faith (agreement with His plans in prayer) on the earth? (Lk. 18:7-8)  4 You shall be called Hephzibah…for the LORD delights in you…5 As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. 6 I have set watchmen (intercessors) on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night…7 and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. (Isa. 62:4-7)
More Signs: Global worship movement (Isa. 42:10-13) End-time outpouring of the Spirit Unparalleled understanding of End-Time prophecy: (Jer. 23:20; 30:24; Dan. 11:33; 12:10; 12:4, 9-10).) Global youth focus in the Kingdom (Mal. 4:5-6) A marked increase of knowledge (not wisdom) as many run “to and fro” to obtain it (Dan. 12:4); 5 years worth of research material is produced by scientists every 24 hours; 80% of all the scientists who have ever lived are alive in our generation; 500,000 new books are produced every year

24:22 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

With great rage, Satan will target Natural Israel for extermination (Rev. 12:13-17) in the final three and a half years before Jesus returns.  Then the woman (the remnant of Israel) fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they (Gentile believers) should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days (Jacob’s Trouble). (Rev. 12:6) However, out of mercy, the Lord will target Natural Israel for preservation at the same time. Jesus’ goal will be to contend for, preserve and win over this group. Satan’s goal will be to deceive, destroy, and eliminate this group, and thus stop them from enthroning the true King and ensuring his defeat. At the most extreme point of trouble for the Jewish people, Jerusalem, and Israel— when all the nations are gathered against them (Zech. 12:3), two-thirds of the Jews
have perished (Zech. 13:8), and half of Jerusalem is in captivity (Zech. 14:2) with many others in prison camps throughout the nations as well (Is. 42:5-9; 49:8-12; 61:1-7)—the Lord will initiate the prophetic cry from the heavens: what I hope would be 100 million Gentile intercessors will, in unity with the Holy Spirit, cry out that the time has come for Jesus to return (Rev. 11:15-19).
The prophetic cry will be related to the need for Jerusalem to be liberated from theAntichrist and his demonized armies (gathered from among the nations) (Rev. 16:14). In response, the Greater Moses will come (Deut. 18:15) to effect the end-time deliverance of His people from the “greater pharaoh.”

24:21-22 When you see the ‘Abomination of Desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place…21 for then there will be GREAT TRIBULATION, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved (physically killed); but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. (Mt. 24:15, 21-22)
A. The revealing of the man of sin follows. This is a second, distinct time frame (according to Revelation 17) in which the Antichrist emerges and destroys the Harlot system to create a global context for loyalty to him and worship of him. To establish his supremacy as the true god of the earth, he will stand in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem (that he most likely helped to rebuild – Dan. 9:27) and place an image of himself, the abomination of desolation (Matt. 24:15; Rev. 13:14-15) in the Holy Place and demanding that all acknowledge his supremacy over every other God – but especially the Hebrew and Christian God and His Son. All will be forced to worship this image or be killed.
B. His emergence, according to Jesus, marks the beginning of the most extreme time frame for believers in human history, the Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:15-31). Revelation 5:8 – 6:1 describe this time frame beginning after the church has come into significant maturity and testing at the hands of the Harlot system (Rev. 17:6).

C. The very Terrible Day will be the greatest crisis in history called the Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:21; Jer. 30:7; Dan. 12:1; Rev. 3:10) emphasizing the negative dimensions of the 3½ years before Jesus’ return. The great trouble will be caused by the wrath of God on the rebellious by the Antichrist’s reign of terror and the actions of evil people (on both believers and unbelievers) along with convulsions in nature (earthquakes, storms, etc).

24:21-22 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

The purpose of the Great Tribulation is to purify God’s people, bring in the harvest (including the salvation of Israel), vindicate the saints, expose false believers within the Church, demonstrate God’s power in protecting the saints (Rom. 9:17), punish sin (2 Thes. 1:6-10; Isa. 26:21), and
purge the earth from the defilement of sin (Isa. 24:4-6; Zech. 13:2). God’s judgment removes options that often function as props that we falsely trust in and temptations that we yield to. The principle of judgment: God uses the least severe means to bring the greatest numbers to salvation
at the deepest levels of love without violating anyone’s free will in training the future rulers of the earth.

Mt. 24:24  False christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. False signs and wonders arise (Mt. 24:24; Mk. 13:22; 2 Thes. 2:9; Rev. 13:13-14; 16:14; 19:20). There will be a specific hour, during a season of great pressure, when many people will openly and publicly reject Jesus and the Church. The pressure will be more than “social,” in nature, it will be a political and religious pressure. People will be pressured to conform to a compromised faith that has come about due to the teachings and proclamations of deceptive “false prophets” (Matt. 24:11). The deceptive arguments of these false prophets will be so convincing, that even the “elect,” the fiery, passionate believers, may be unsure of what is true in the midst of it all – though they will never be convinced by the false prophets and will stand firm (Matt. 24:24).
2. The false prophets will be emissaries of a religious system that seems attractive in every way in its ability to deliver world peace, economic stability and prosperity, even physical comfort and security. We will know this religious system as Babylon (Rev 17:1-4).
3. During the early period of false “peace and safety,” (1 Thess. 5:2) many saints will lose their lives (be martyred) because they resist the pressure to conform and refuse to do so. Also, many saints will be offended, betray other saints, and hate one another   their love for Jesus will grow cold (Matt. 24:10-12).
4. This “shaking” and purifying of the Church will initially be intense; it will be the “dark night of the soul” for the many people who burn with love for Jesus despite the affliction (Song 5:6-16). It will intensify during the Great Tribulation under the direction of Antichrist. However, this time period will also be the purified Bride’s finest hour (Dan.11: 33). Jesus encourages us to “endure to the end” in Matthew 24:13.

Mt. 24:25 See, I have told you beforehand.
A. The nature of God is always to warn before releasing judgment. It is not consistent with His nature that He would come without warning to surprise the whole earth. 7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His…prophets. (Amos 3:7)
B. Jesus said, “I have told you these things beforehand,” because He wanted us to know the info.

24:27-31 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
The lightning fast speed speaks of the start of the Coming procession, not the full duration
A. It seems clear that the seventh trumpet in the book of Revelation corresponds with what Paul called “the last trumpet” in 1 Corinthians 15:52. Why did Paul reveal that there would be a “final” trumpet – and what progression of trumpets was he speaking of?
B. The apostle John would witness firsthand what Paul was revealing in part in Revelation 9-11. John sees and hears a series of “trumpet blasts” related to the release of end-time judgments that shake the earth significantly before the coming of the Lord. The culmination of these trumpet judgments is the “last trumpet” – the time of the return of Jesus and the victory of the saints.
C. It is at the sounding of this trumpet in Revelation 11:15-19 that Jesus breaks into the sky above to take His great power over the earth and reign over the nations in a direct way. The possession of the nations, rightfully His, will now become fully His as it is time to remove all of His reprobate (fully seared in conscience) enemies who have rejected His kingdom invitation. It is now time to purge the earth of all of the wicked that would violently resist or reject His rule, or “destroy those who destroy the earth.” The nations are enraged by His judgments and, as they have become fully seared (or taken the mark of the beast) they are completely “dead” in their conscience and have no hope of salvation or redemption. Their time of final judgment is at hand.

24:33-34 33 When you see all these things, know that it is near–at the doors! 34 Assuredly…this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place…
B. Jesus commanded the people in the generation of His return to know that His return was near when they saw ALL the sign events of Mt. 24 occurring at the same time. There is only one generation in which all these things happen simultaneously on a global basis.

C. How long is a biblical generation? A generation in Scripture ranges from 40 to 100 years (Gen. 15:13-16; Num. 32:13; Ps. 90:10; Mt. 1:17; Acts 7:6). Moses spoke of Israel’s captivity in Egypt as lasting 400 years or 4 generations (Gen. 15:13). Thus, a generation could refer to 100 years. There were 14 generations from Abraham to David (Mt. 1:17) each averaging about 70 years.

D. Jesus rebuked His generation for not being able to read the signs of His first coming. Asking for a sign was a legitimate request because Joel prophesied that the Messiah would give signs from heaven (Joel 2:30). Their hypocrisy was in testing Jesus by asking for signs beyond those He did.
1 The Pharisees…came testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven…2
Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of
the times. 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign… (Mt. 16:1-4)
F. Paul taught that the Church should know the times and seasons related to the Lord’s coming. (1 Thes. 5:1-6) Paul said that we are not in darkness that the Day of the Lord should overtake us as a thief. A thief causes one to suffer loss of things that could have been avoided by watching. The thief motif mostly emphasizes the element of loss that one suffers because of an unexpected coming.
24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
A. Lawlessness will abound: sin will reach its fullest expression (Mt. 24:12; Rev. 14:18).
12 Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. (Mt. 24:12)
23 In he latter time…when the transgressors have reached their fullness… (Dan. 8:23)
21 They did not repent of their murders…sorceries…sexual immorality or thefts. (Rev. 9:21)
1. Murder: as the primary sin on earth (Rev. 6:9-11; 7:13-14; 9:21; 13:7, 10; 16:6; 17:6)
2. Sorceries: occult and demon worship will fill the earth (Rev. 13:3-4, 8, 12-15; 14:11)
3. Immorality: demon-energized perversion (Rev. 9:20-21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:3; 19:2)
4. Theft: legislation and persecution motivated by theft (i.e., the Nazi’s anti-Semitism)

B. The days of Noah: VIOLENCE (Mt. 24:37; Gen. 6:11-13; 2 Tim. 3); great violence will be seen in terrorist acts, race riots, wars in the streets, increasing murder rates worldwide.
5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of
the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…11 The earth was corrupt before God, and
the earth was filled with violence… (Gen. 6:5-11)
12 God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way
on the earth. 13 God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is
filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them… (Gen. 6:12-13)
1. Abortion: nearly 50 million abortions worldwide each year or 1/4 of all pregnancies (over
100,000 per day). Over 1.5 million babies are aborted per year (4,000 per day) in the US.
2. Breakdown of the family: the divorce rate is exploding worldwide (in the US it is 50%)
and brother shall betray brother even to death (Mk 13:12).
C. The days of Lot: IMMORALITY (Lk. 17:28-30; Gen. 19:1-28); immorality will greatly increase in the End-Times (Rev. 9:21; 14:8; 17:1-4; 18:2-4, 9-10; 19:2; 21:8). This is seen in many ways.
1. Human trafficking (Rev. 18:13; Joel 3:3). There are currently 35 million slaves on the earth. It is growing nearly 5 million per year. 2. Pornography: nearly $100 billion is spent each year on pornography worldwide. 3. Homosexuality: is sweeping across the world as nations are accepting homosexuality in clergy and marriage. Paul prophesied that marriage would be outlawed in some places. 1 The Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits…3 forbidding to marry… (1 Tim. 4:1-3)

24:32-44 Learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you KNOW that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see ALL these things, KNOW that it is near–at the doors! 34 Assuredly…this generation will by no means pass away till ALL these things take place… 36 Of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels…but My Father only…42 Watch…for you do not know what hour your Lord is
coming. 43 Know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would
come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you
also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Jesus commanded us to know the generation that the Lord returns.

The Church will look up and lift their heads in encouragement knowing Jesus is coming soon.
28 When these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your
redemption draws near. 29 He spoke…a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31
So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near…
(Luke 21:28-31)
Asking for a sign was a legitimate request because Joel prophesied that the Messiah would give
signs from heaven (Joel 2:30-32). In hypocrisy, they were seeking signs beyond those done by
Jesus and given by Scripture with the intention of testing God. Jesus’ miracles were signs to bear
witness of Him (Jn. 5:36).
24:32-35  “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only
A. There are many prophesied “signs” in the prophetic scriptures that mark the final generation as unique. These signs give us understanding that we are in a unique season in history. The
assumption that many make regarding Matt. 24:36 and 44 is that:
1. No one can know the day or the hour, which must mean a sudden, unexpected departure.
This cannot be true, as the apostles themselves understood that there would be signs and events that they would be able to use to mark the season change that would mark His coming. No one can know the day or the hour, but Jesus Himself made clear that we could (and should) know the season, or generation of His return.
2. No one will ever know the day or the hour. “Of that day” no one knows, only the Father Himself. That does not mean, however, that we will never know the time of His coming.
3. The Bible gives precise information to believers (number of days, months, and years pertaining to certain events in the last days) that will give us great hope in the midst of fiery trial. We may still not know the exact day or hour, but we will have great hope alive within us that there is a predetermined end to the trouble that will soon come.
4. Many use Mt. 24:36 to justify their unfamiliarity and their lack of study of biblical prophecy.
They use this passage in the opposite way that Jesus intended in its context.

24:40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
The context of this passage describes those taken in judgment in a sudden and unexpected manner. These will be “swept away” in death by God’s judgment coming on the earth. Many people in Noah’s day were surprised by the flood of judgment that killed them. In the same manner, many will ignore the signs that Jesus described in Matthew 24:3-35. Jesus told them clearly that those taken were taken by death to the place the eagle or vultures will eat them.

Noah and his family prepared for an entire generation without knowing the specific day or hour.
7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared
an ark for the saving of his household…and became heir of the righteousness… (Heb. 11:7)

Watchfulness is to establish a lifestyle of encountering Jesus. It is essential in hindering Satan as
the thief from stealing our inheritance (Jn. 10:10). Our primary inheritance is our heart
connection with Jesus. Satan seeks to steal this aspect of our inheritance, knowing that by doing
this that he will also gain access to our ministry inheritance.

24:45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing…48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, “My master is delaying his coming,” 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants…, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus addresses leadership or those who rule over and feed God’s people. He categorized them into good and evil leaders. Then in Mt. 25:1-13, Jesus further categorized the good leaders into wise and foolish.  The good leaders here, in the context of end-times give ‘food to the housefold in due season.’  One of the temptation they face is drunkeness with those who are drunk.

This is similar to Luke 21:34: “But take heed to yourself, lest your hearts be weighed down with fear”—that is exhortation one. Then, in Luke 21:36, Jesus tells them to pray always. So the two exhortations that Jesus gives is: take heed to yourself and pray always.

It says in Luke 21:34, exhortation one: “Take heed to yourself, lest your hearts be weighed down
with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.” He
says, “Why? Because if you do not pay attention to yourself, your heart will be weighed down
with carousing, drunkenness, and the cares of this life.” The net result is this: the Day of the
Lord, the second coming, and the events related to it will come upon these people, even
believers, unexpectedly because their hearts are weighed down, and they do not have an alert
spirit. They do not know what is happening, even when the generation they are living in is the
generation of the Lord’s return. Their hearts are weighted down because they did not pay
attention to the way they were living. We are talking about believers as well. He is talking to His
people here—people who would read the Bible and believers.
It is as if Luke is saying, “Let me give you the bigger context” (Lk. 21:35, paraphrased). Why is
it that this is so important? Luke 21:35 is a bit ominous. It is a little bit overwhelming almost.
Well, it is actually hard to understand except by the Spirit of God. Luke says in 21:35: “It will
come”—the Day of the Lord, the end-time events—“as a snare upon all those who dwell on the
face the whole earth.”

Entering into the Promises

Nevertheless, change is upon us. We believe a seven-year transition or overlap season is now coming to an end from 2005-2011 that has taken us from the leadership identified according to Moses into the leadership of Joshua.

(Those who are seeking God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength, will enter the Promised Land, and we will see those who were moving powerfully in the things of the Spirit were just ‘spies’ telling us of the Land we can pursue and take, if we choose.  Oba 17 and 18 talk about the house of Jacob being set on fire,  if we will wrestle, He will set our house on fire, we will enter into the promises.)

Joshua – The Overcoming Anointing

The 120 years of spiritual activity from 1885-2005 functioned in the order of Moses. Clearly, Moses was one of the greatest men of God who ever lived. His intimate friendship with the Lord set a standard we aspire to today. Even so, the totality of his original mandate was not fully achieved in his lifetime.

Moses brought the people out of Egypt under God’s mighty hand of power through miracles, signs and wonders; but, that generation did not cross over into their destiny because of their “stiff-necked” condition. According to Deuteronomy 29:4, they did not possess the revelatory anointing essential to co-operate with God.

Their eyes and ears were not opened and their hearts were not devoted to the revelation of Heaven’s plan. As a result, they were disqualified and a season of discipline ensued.

Nevertheless, the next generation emerged with spiritual hunger and desperation that captured Heaven’s attention and positioned them for their inheritance. That is the same model we have followed over the last century.

Naturally, that is not to point a condemning finger at the saints of the prior generation. Clearly, there was a remnant of very godly people who recognized their day of visitation and openly embraced it. Even so, a prudent analysis of history reveals that the corporate Church as a whole did not embrace the open door opportunities set before them to cross the spiritual Jordan.

According to John G. Lake’s analysis in 1925, “the people were more captured by the phenomena of God than the Person.” That mistake was made during the early 20th century and repeated in the ’50s. For the 21st century generation to cross over in a Joshua anointing, it will likewise require God’s great grace for walking intimately with Him, along with a thorough understanding of the lessons learned from past achievements and failures. Hebrews 13:7-8 declares,

“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

This Biblical admonition requires that we remember and be constantly mindful of those who have gone before us. Furthermore, we are to consider well and observe accurately the end of their lives. This examination positions us to imitate their faith. In so doing, the Lord will do through us what He did through them by mighty expressions of His power and authority, because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The Lord promised Joshua that He would walk with him as He did with Moses. Our assurance is the same. As the Lord accompanied the mighty champions of the last century, so also will He be with us. Even so, what we do may appear totally different. Joshua’s accomplishments were distinctly different from those of Moses: It was to point the people to their inheritance and initiate desire and tenacity to press in to Him for the grace to become the overcomers who retrieve from the dominion of the adversary the “land of promise,” which rightfully belongs to God’s people and the lordship of Jesus.

Appropriating Our Spiritual Currency

With a fresh word from the Lord there is an equally important need for increase in our measure of discernment. History has proven that each major juncture in God’s time-line is met with a deluge of voices. However, the Lord promised that His sheep will know His voice. He said,

“When He puts forth all His own, He goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow Him because they know His voice. A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers” (John 10:4-5).

The Lord comes with miracles, signs and wonders to validate a message that is firmly rooted and grounded in the written Word. God’s people are often captivated by the signs and wonders, but only a remnant captures the message. This trend must be reversed in this hour. The early Church model prayed that the Lord would,

“…grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus” (Acts 4:29-30).

Truth is the seal of God. The Spirit of Truth will guide us into all truth and thereby eliminate all forms of deliberate falsehood and hypocrisy, and that message will be confirmed with Heaven’s affirmation of the miraculous.

The Holy Spirit worked with the early disciples with signs and wonders to confirm the message of God’s Kingdom. To us a measure of grace is being allotted to quicken our spirits for receptivity to that message. A supernatural hunger is provoking us to move beyond cold formal religiosity to pursue relationship with Him; to even possess this desire is God’s gift.

Recently in a revelatory experience the Lord told me to tell His people to “carefully appropriate their spiritual currency.”  To each is given a measure of faith.  We must exercise keen discernment to determine where we appropriate that faith and invest our time, energy and spiritual currency into this new day. There are many prophetic voices out there and we must discover the ones that have the life of God.

Free From the Laodicean Spirit

The Laodicean Church Age is one identified in the Scripture as “lukewarm” Christianity with the “people’s rule” that creates apathy and lethargy. It is fundamentally essential for the spirit of stupor to be extracted for us to begin to see with spirit eyes. The Apostle Paul said:

“Even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

Our adversary has worked diligently to release the “spirit of stupor” over the Western Church. This diabolical scenario blinds our eyes and shields our ears to spiritual truth. It shields us from the glory of Christ that depicts the perfect image of God and promotes a sense of satisfaction to simply live in a justified state without being incited to greater depths in Him.

A “great light” will be offered to those who have formally known darkness and gloom. Much like the promise given to the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, the people who walk in darkness will see a brilliant light and He will make the end of the age a glorious season (see Isaiah 9:1-2).

Our directive is to create an atmosphere for people to personally encounter the Lord and also address issues of the soul that have kept us from divine destiny. The Lord is expressing His desire to release a revelatory realm that allows people to obtain a vision of destiny and the “hope of our calling” that dispels hopelessness and gloom. Paul said,

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words” (1 Cor 2:12-13).

Personal rendezvous with the Lord delivers us from gloom and stupor by allowing hope to permeate our hearts with visions of destiny and the importance of this generation. We then endeavor to lay aside every encumbrance and entanglement that has hindered us in the past and motivate us to move on to God’s high calling.

Greater Grace for Destiny

The religious spirit is so closely akin to the Holy Spirit, the Lord announced, it would deceive the very elect IF POSSIBLE. That is a sobering warning granted to us in Matthew 24. Nevertheless, there is an unseen force compelling many Believers out of complacency or rigid religious formality… It is divine destiny. Something has been imparted into the spiritual DNA of this generation that rejects the “lukewarm” Laodicean spirit that has so subtly deceived many.

It is God’s grace that allows spiritual awakening to recognize the distinction between these two spirits. The religious spirit introduces into the Church the spirit of the world nullifying the grace of God. The views of truth necessary to purify the Church are not such as the world gives, but are such as are communicated by God’s Spirit.

The counterfeit spirit will attempt to lead the Church away from the reality of God expressed in the Book of Acts. During the later years of his life, John G. Lake received a powerful angelic visitation. In this encounter the angel opened the Scriptures to the Book of Acts saying, “This is Pentecost as God gave it through the heart of Jesus. Strive for this. Contend for this. Teach the people to pray for this. For this, and this alone, will meet the necessity of the human heart, and this alone will have power to overcome the forces of darkness.”

As the angel departed, he admonished Lake insisting, “Pray, pray, pray. Teach the people to pray. Prayer and prayer alone, much prayer, persistent prayer, is the door of entrance into the heart of God.”

Believers who pursue the Lord with honest and sincere hearts will begin to recognize the spirit of religion more definitively as the counterfeit of the true anointing that should rightfully be embraced by the Lord’s people. Many of the counterfeit spirits operating in the Church will become increasingly less effective and revealed as a thief. A clear line of delineation is going to be drawn in these days. It will become much more discernable who truly serves God and who does not. This will begin the days prophesied by Malachi when he said,

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. ‘They will be Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.’ So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him” (Mal 3:16-18).

Truth from the Book of Acts will be utilized to lay the axe to the root of the religious tree so that the emerging anointed tree of Life can become more clearly visible.

In the Spirit on the Lord’s Day

(At Ihop-kc they are praying Eph 1:17-18 and such for the churches.  You too can pray with them in intercession sets here.)   The directive at White Dove Ministries is to create an atmosphere for people to encounter the Lord experientially. For some time now I have been preaching from Revelation 1 and highlighting John’s Patmos vision.  John was arguably the most intimate and familiar person on the planet with the Lord Jesus.  John walked with the Lord for three and a half years; witnessed the miracles, signs and wonders; witnessed the crucifixion and resurrection; became one with God in the upper room with the 120 and served the Lord six decades as an apostle of that generation. Even all of that did not prepare John for what he saw in his Patmos Island vision. Clearly, his heart was expanded and his capacity for God increased after seeing the Lord as Supreme Judge and Overcoming King. No doubt John’s life was not the same after his time on Patmos.

The Lord is expressing His desire to release a revelatory realm that allows people to experientially encounter Him and obtain a vision of destiny and the “hope of our calling” which dispels hopelessness, enlarges our heart and increases our capacity for God. The Holy Spirit spoke through Isaiah saying,

“Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. Say to those with anxious heart, ‘Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; the recompense of God will come, but He will save you.’ Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness and streams in the Arabah.

“The scorched land will become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, its resting place, grass becomes reeds and rushes. A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it” (Isa 35:3-8).

Jacob had such an experience in Genesis 28 and it impacted the remainder of his life. The Heavens opened and he was told of his destiny and that of his descendants. He discovered the Lord’s presence and Heaven’s host assigned to co-labor with man. Eventually, his nature was changed and he entered the destiny revealed in this experience.

Every leader we are in relationship with recognizes this great need in the Western Church. Our written and spoken messages are built around this reality. Even so, as we have traveled the nation, we discovered an epidemic of hopelessness in the Western Church that the Lord intends to reverse.

Spiritual vision from the revelatory realm of Heaven provides hope derived by a revelation of our calling and destiny; hope dispels hopelessness.  That is the promise of Ephesians 1:17-18  (Powerful prayer).

It is not difficult to discern our present condition. Nevertheless, I personally desire to be a loyal servant like the ones who ventured into the land of promise and returned with a faithful report in the days of Moses. Yes, there are giants in the land, but God is able to empower us to overcome. This impartation will strengthen our feeble knees and encourage our downcast hearts.

Life to Dry Bones

The prophet Ezekiel was taken to a valley of dry bones. He was not instructed to condemn them, but to prophesy life to them. He said,

I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel”‘” (Ezekiel 37:10-12).

That is our hope and expectation. We desire to breathe life into dry bones and begin to see them take shape and form a troop of those who overcome.

Though the Western Church may look like a valley of dry bones, I believe the Lord sees her prophetically as an exceedingly great army. We are convinced our nation and the western Church has an incredible destiny yet to be fulfilled. When people are given a glimpse of their individual role in that destiny, it transforms them and sets them on the course to repentance and the impartation of the Christ-like nature.

They see the cause of God and are forever changed and have the joy of their salvation restored. We are seeing that happen now. Strongholds of hopelessness, despair, depression and other oppressive mindsets will be overcome when God’s “zoe” life is breathed into this army.

To see the revelation of His glory and power, we must be partakers of His nature and convey the attributes that capture His attention. Perhaps no man in history experienced this more than Moses. There were portions of Moses’ nature that pleased God and qualified him for his destiny.

Even so, the apostle Paul challenges New Testament Believers to press in to God and experience all that Moses did and more. Moses knew the Lord face-to-face and friend-to-friend under a covenant sealed with the blood of bulls and goats; how much more should we in the covenant sealed with the very Blood of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:7-8)?

The Example of Moses

As the leader of Israel, Moses, described in Scripture as the meekest man in the land, stood on the brink of inheriting long awaited promises. Nevertheless, to his credit, he was not satisfied to simply experience God’s promises, he also longed for God’s presence. This clearly implies the unwise ability to walk in our prophetic promises without the Lord’s presence.

Furthermore Moses’ heart was not satisfied with the Lord’s promise and presence; he also desired to see His glory. These should also be our expectations and longings.

As the Lord passed before Moses in His goodness, He declared, “The Lord! the Lord! a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth, keeping mercy and loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but Who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7 (Amplified)

It is the very nature of God to be filled with kindness and truth. These virtues will position us to experience the beams of Heavenly light that proceeds from His hands to display great exploits to His glory.

“O God, if I have found favor in Your eyes,” he said, “then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.” Exodus 34:9

According to the commission given to Moses, supernatural signs have a “voice” (see Exodus 4:8 KJV).  Meaning there is a message that accompanies the signs.  The message is one of restoration of God’s covenant people to a place of spiritual prominence and submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

In every age, God’s spiritual voice that is validated by signs and wonders always calls that generation back to the Lordship of Christ. This was especially true during the “Voice of Healing” revival of the ’50s, as numerous ministers admonished the Church to lose their personal agendas and programs so they would embrace intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Moses had a face-to-face friendship with the Lord.  That exchange lets us understand His desire for complete leadership of God’s covenant people.  When we in this generation discover that place of friendship, we will also understand more fully how the spirit of anti-christ has infiltrated the Church with a counterfeit anointing that usurps the Spirit’s leadership.

The Book of Revelation calls it the “spirit of the Nicolaitans” that ventures to overshadow God’s aspiration to release total liberty in the Church and mobilize His people into a priesthood of Believers. That trend will change as we become more discerning of His presence and walk more intimately with Him.

We create spiritual disorder when we insist upon our own plans and agendas and fail to embrace His. Grace is being offered to relinquish that mindset along with the wonderful opportunity to participate with the Lord in His plans. This union is where true spiritual fruitfulness will be generated.

The generation that exited Egypt under Moses’ leadership missed their door of opportunity and wandered 38 years as a result! In many ways, that could accurately depict the generation that participated in the Voice of Healing revival of the ’40s and ’50s.  But the change is coming in 2012, if we will wrestle like Jacob, we will enter into the promises.  We must hunger after God with pursuit and not just settle for the natural like Esau giving up on His inheritance for a mere bowl of soup.

What is the Restrainer?

3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away[apostasy] comes first, and the man of sin [the antichrist] is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is like God.

5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.  (2 Thess. 2:5-7).

Paul refers the Thesselonians to his past teaching on this subject, as he goes back and mentions briefly the conditions that will lead to the emergence of this brutal, world leader, the Antichrist.  He has gotten his power from the nations who have desired for this kind of king, who represents everything that they long to be. As Israel poorly chose Saul over David, so the nations will choose this man over the true King, Jesus.

This decision is the result of a declining morality and rejection of righteousness.  The coming of the “lawless one” will be the fruit of the maturity of lawlessness (Dan. 8:23) when the “transgressors reach their fullness.” God will give men the god they desire when Satan is cast down to the earth (Rev. 12:7-9) and will “give them over” to the king they desire as well (Rom. 1:26).

What is the Restrainer

What is restraining” and “he who restrains” are often thought to be the Holy Spirit – but the issue that must be resolved is “what” and / or “who” is restraining the activity of sin on the planet: is it God or men that restrains sin, and what will be “taken out of the way” to allow for the fullness of sin to come forth? As the church will be experiencing the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit in history, it does not seem likely that the Holy Spirit will be moved out of the way – nor does it seem as if the Holy Spirit functions as a restraint to sin.

Some wrongly teach that the Holy Spirit is the restrainer that is removed when the Church is raptured before the Great Tribulation. If that were true then no-one could be saved in the Great Tribulation because it takes the work of the Holy Spirit moving on an unbeliever’s heart for them to be saved.  Even the Left Behind series accounts for the harvest coming in, millions of unbelievers coming to Christ, (Matt 13:39).  (This belief doesn’t account for the end-time Tribulation to be like the plagues Moses released on Pharaoh, who was an Old Testament type of the Antichrist.  The praying church and prayer movement will in unity release these numbered seals and trumpets as Judgments on a wicked empire.  God will protect and seal much of the end-time church; Zech 2:3).

This “restrainer” is holding back sin and lawlessness. What or who that restraining force is, Paul does not say specifically in this letter.  The forces that restrain lawnessness, in a sense restrain the man of lawlessness, for until they are fully given over to lawlessness they will not elect or want him.  Ultimately what restrains lawlessness is ‘laws.’  When Paul He described the restrainer as a “what” (neuter in v. 6) and as a “he” (masculine in v. 7) I believe he was referring to cival authority or in his day “Rome.”  The legislation that is put in place by man, reflecting man’s desires.

I believe what is restraining men is biblical morality knit to the human conscience – eternity has been written on the heart of every man.  As men suppress the truth and sear their conscience they will throw off the “bonds” of biblical morality. As the conscience erodes, man will continue to change their laws to reflect what is alive in their conscience.  Yet the church can prevent this to a degree in praying eph 1:17 for the nations, wisdom and revelation of Jesus released by the Holy Spirit in greater measure.  Hos 4:6  says ‘my people cast off restrain because of their lack of revelation.’

Finally, men will move God Himself “out of the way” and God will no longer act to restrain the full “ripening” of sin in His mercy as He did at the tower of Babel (Gen. 11). Men will literally “vote God out” of their cultural and social context and make way for the false king to come forth.

Romans 1 Pattern

4 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.

It is critical that we understand the Romans 1 pattern of God’s leadership at the end of the age. Paul highlighted a key facet of God’s mercy strategy for those who oppose His leadership—He gives them what they want in the hopes that they will come to their senses and repent.  God, if they press for it, gives people the desires of their heart, hoping that they will turn from then in hopes and, in turning, come to the realization that His ways (and leadership) are superior to our own.

In Romans 1, Paul was touching on a terrifying reality that is knit to the Sermon on the Mount: that Jesus will give to anyone who asks. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Matt. 7:7-8).  Everyone who asks receives; the unbeliever and believer alike will receive that which they press and pursue by their choices and actions.  In the kindness of Jesus, and as part of His strategy to produce voluntary love within the heart of all people, He leads in part by desire.  Part of how He transforms our desires is by revealing to us how unsatisfying our fleshly pursuits actually are to us.

Now the restrainer will be taken away and then the antichrist will come, and those who take the mark can never be saved.  The mark is a declaration that you believe the antichrist, whatever he is called at the time, is God and your allegiance is to him and no one else, not Jesus.  The restrainer will be taken away and hopefully many who fell away from the faith and into the harlot have at this time become disillusioned with sin and disobedience to Jesus and do not accept the antichrist.  But for some the restrainer being taken away caused them to only fall deeper in love with sin and they will accept the mark.

Mystery of Iniquity

Paul spoke of “the mystery of iniquity” (2 Thess. 2:7) or the mystery of man’s hidden hatred of God and His ways. Men despise the leadership of God. The great error is thinking that if God revealed Himself to men, they would believe and repent. One does not necessarily lead to the other. For the last 2000 years, God has “pleaded His case with the nations” to believe and repent in what Jeremiah called His “controversy with the nations” (Jer. 25:31). Jesus understood that men love darkness (the works of sin) rather than light and truth (Jn. 3:19).

Psa 2:3 says the kings of the earth will “break Their bonds” and “cast Their cords”  they will violently break off and hurl away all restraint; all that represents biblical morality will be angrily removed from the social context in that time. They see the morality and laws of God as “chains” that restrain them in a negative manner, hindering them from their goal of power. The rulers of the earth will not only reject God and His Son (or Anointed King), but they will in full unity completely reject God’s ways and influence over them or their people. Rev. 17:13-18 gives an example of this.
