We know the Second Coming is not coming any minute, because the Bride will be prepared.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem. The glorified and heavenly Church, pure and beautiful as a bride prepared for the bridegroom
Though the events of the book themselves will serve in bringing forth further maturity to the church in that day, we can do our part now with deep study of the book of Revelation. The book itself contains God’s strategic plan of events that will result at a prepared Bride at His return, but the first event is happening now. “Blessed is he who reads and hears the words of this prophesy” (Rev 1:3). Now this has been true since is was written, but it is especially applicable to our generation now, who I believe will see His return. I believe the Lord is highlighting this blessing now for those that are called as ‘forerunners,’ to eat this scroll like the one the angel gave John, that its revelation be sweet to our tongue, but its burden cause us to pray and reach the church around us (Rev 10).
I highly recommend Mike Bickle’s commentary on the book, it is good because enables you to understand it quickly by taking the literal things literally and taking the clearly symbolic things, symboliclly. A lot of Revelation commentaries don’t do that, actually. It is available as an itunes app or at the store at ihop.org
An understanding of the church’s bridal identity will play a part in their preparation and the Lord plans to establish it, for He told John prophetically. “The Spirit and the Bride (church) will say come” (Rev 22:17). The church will be crying out in a bridal identity for the return of the Bridegroom, (Jesus).
Let’s look at 2nd Peter 3:
3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?
…And since for evil He is going to burn the earth, 11 What sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God.
Many people have it all backwards. They are waiting for the Lord, but the truth is the Lord is waiting for the church, because the church has a role to play and Jesus will not come back until it is done and successful. By pursuing readiness in yourself and those around you, you are doing your part in bringing closer His return!
